Description

A lovely antique cellarette. We date this cellarette to around the mid 19th century.
This cellarette has a wonderful provenance, the oak used to make this cellarette was part of the original foundations of the old Stockwell bridge in Glasgow.
‘The bridge was built about the year 1345 and was taken down in 1850’.
There is a silver lockplate where the history behind the wood used to make this cellarette is engraved. The cellarette has a fitted lock (key is supplied).
The cellarette has a Sarcophagus design with a rear hinged lid. The interior has the remains of its tin liner for keeping wine cool, with a baize finish at the upper area. The cellarette sits on 4 small oak bun feet.
The cellarette has a height of 18.5" (47cm), with a width of 32.5" (82cm) and a depth of 20.5" (52cm).
This lovely cellarette remains in very good solid condition with only minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage There are some minor indents and surface marks with some wear on a couple of the corners where it has lost a little veneer.
This remains a very stylish cellarette. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
