An attractive large bookcase. We date this bookcase to the late 19th century.
The bookcase sits on a plain plinth base and comes in two sections for transport, the base cupboard, the top glazed bookcase with integral cornice.
The base section is fitted with a cupboard fitted with two side hinged panelled doors, the interior of the base cupboard is fitted with an adjustable wooden shelf.
The top section is fitted with two glazed side hinged doors, internally there are four adjustable deep wooden shelves.
The bookcase and base cupboards are fitted with brass knob handles.
The bookcase has an overall height of 84.5" (215cm), a cornice width of 50" (107cm), a base depth of 21.5" (55cm) and a cornice depth of 18” (46cm).
The shelves have a depth of 11.5” (29cm).
This lovely bookcase remains in a good solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage, these include some wear to some edges and the top of the bottom section has a few indentations the handles have been changed at some time in the past which has left some filled holes. There is a small piece of moulding missing at the rear right hand side edge of the top section.
This remains a very stylish bookcase cabinet. It could house a good sized collection of books etc. and will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
